About
Quonta
Quonta is a registered non-profit charitable organization whose purpose is to promote, encourage and broaden non-professional theatrical activity and experience in the Region. Membership is open to any non-professional theatre group from any community within the boundaries of the Region. Benefits of Membership: By becoming a member of Quonta you become a member of a vast network of organizations dedicated to the promotion of theatre and theatre arts. Quonta Festival: Quonta operates an annual adjudicated Drama Festival taking place in the various communities of its member groups. Entries are invited from all the group members from the communities across the region. Adjudicators are chosen from the ranks of professional or educational experts listed in Theatre Ontario's Talent Bank. In addition to the professional adjudications, these festivals include workshops, forums, social activities and awards. The winning play is invited to take part in the Theatre Ontario Festival, representing the Quonta Region and in competition with plays from across the province. Newsletter The Q by Q newsletter (Quonta by Quarters) brings news from the various groups around the region as well as news from Theatre Ontario and other regions. Share opinions or post some theatrical want ads. Awards The Quonta Festival presents up to thirteen awards at the annual festival with awards for acting, directing, design etc. The five adjudicator awards are designed to reward virtually any area of theatre craft. Quonta also presents the Elsie McLeod Memorial Youth Bursary. This award allows a young member of a group within the Region to attend a Theatre Ontario Summer Course (valued at over $700.) Part of a Network Your Membership supports our advocacy work and ensures opportunities for artists throughout the vast reaches that make up the northeast, to be heard and to learn from each other. To be a Quonta member is to be "in touch" with theatre. Join the theatre family today.
